Yankees radio legend freaks out calling out Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run

Legendary Yankees radio host John Sterling called seven World Series and two perfect games, and he didn’t miss one of Derek Jeter’s games as a Yankee.

He had seen almost everything.

Now, Sterling can add Major League Baseball’s single-season AL home run champion’s all-time home runs to his resume.

Sterling has been the Yankees’ primary play-by-play announcer since 1989. At one point, he hadn’t missed a game in 30 years. His streak of 5,060 consecutive games ended in 2019.

The moments Sterling has called, from five decisive World Series wins to historic home runs and hits, are the ones every broadcaster dreams of being behind the microphone. But even he couldn’t contain his excitement over Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run on Tuesday night.

Judge surpassed Roger Maris as the AL’s home run king, and the 84-year-old went absolutely nuts.

Sterling was originally scheduled to take out the Yankees’ series in Toronto last week, but when Judge’s record quest became more legitimate, he had a change of plans.

Sterling was 23 years old when Maris broke Babe Ruth’s record in 1961.
