Cardinals’ Kyler Murray was thrown off the field against the Patriots with a non-contact injury

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had to be carried off the field after only the third play of the fight against the New England Patriots.

A source says there is “little doubt” that Murray tore his ACL.

Running out of the pocket to his right, Murray looked to shake off an approaching Patriots defender and immediately hit the turf after attempting to make a cut, sustaining a non-contact injury that left him in considerable pain.

After being assessed on the field, Murray was transferred to the cart where his entire team comforted him as he pulled a towel over his head in clear disappointment.

Colt McCoy came into play. The team said it was questionable whether Murray would return and he was later ruled out.

It’s been a rollercoaster season for the Cardinals, who come into this game 4-8. But it would certainly hit rock bottom if their franchise quarterback, who just signed a five-year, $230 million contract extension before this season, is out for the season.

From Murray’s reaction and the ESPN broadcast saying he was in tears after being carried off the field, it sounds like that could be a possible scenario.

This isn’t Murray’s first injury this season, having been forced to miss two games recently due to a strained hamstring. But even when he was on the field, Murray hasn’t been his usual self.

The former first overall pick was 3-7 as a starter in the year that began Monday night, passing for 2,359 yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also had an 87.1 quarterback rating, which is the worst of his career.

All of the Cardinals’ struggles this season cannot fall on Murray’s shoulders, as fingers can point in multiple directions. However, since the Cardinals gave him a lucrative extension, Murray and head coach Kliff Kingsbury have received the brunt of the criticism from fans.
