Brock Purdy gets big support from his 49ers teammate: “We have a quarterback”


Brock Purdy delivered another gritty performance for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday when his three touchdowns led the team to a 35-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The latest NFL Draft pick, dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant,” seemed to impress teammate Nick Bosa when the star defensive end praised the former Iowa State standout.

“We have a quarterback,” Bosa said, through 49ers web zone. “I had a lot of confidence in him, but obviously it’s the NFL and you have to perform. And he did very well.”

Offensive lineman Mike McGlinchey praised Purdy’s professionalism.

“He’s a very serious professional,” McGlinchey said. “He pushes himself for everything. He’s done it since he got here in April. It doesn’t matter what position he was in, whether he was not dressing, he was second row or he was the guy in training camp that everyone counted on, he’s been a A pro’s pro — as mature a young quarterback as I’ve ever seen him. Now he’s paying off.”

Purdy won in his first NFL start and his second appearance after filling in for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo last week.

He finished 16 for 21 with 185 passing yards. He had a touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk and ran one himself.
