Norwegian Cruise Line says New York City reached out to house immigrants on cruise ship, final deal not yet done

Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed Saturday that New York City had approached the company about using a cruise ship to house an influx of illegal immigrants into the city, but said no agreement had yet been reached.

“Letting cruise ships to companies, government entities and other organizations for various uses is standard business practice throughout our industry,” a Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “While we can confirm that the City of New York has approached us about a possible cruise charter, no agreement has been reached and we cannot speculate on the outcome of the ongoing business discussions.”

the new york post reported this week that Adams was finalizing a deal with the cruise line to house the influx of immigrants for six months so they can be processed before being housed in the city’s shelter system.

The report estimated that 15,500 illegal immigrants have arrived in the nation’s largest city since May, as illegal immigration at the border continues at a record pace with more than 2 million encounters with migrants by Customs and Border Protection this fiscal year.

Since April, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent more than 10,000 migrants by bus from Texas to the Big Apple in hopes of drawing attention to mitigate the border crisis.

“In this new and unforeseen reality, where we expect thousands more to arrive each week in the future, the city’s system is reaching its breaking point,” Adams said last month. “As a result, the city’s previous practices, which never contemplated transporting thousands of people to New York City, must be re-evaluated.”

The plan to house migrants on the cruise is reportedly a cheaper option than multiple tent cities. Adams has erected to handle the surge.

“We’re not going to leave any stone unturned. And once we finalize our plans, we’ll announce it,” Adams. said earlier this week about the cruise idea. “We are not, it will not be a surprise, once we finalize how we are going to continue to fulfill our legal and moral obligation, we will announce it.”
