Henry Cavill Says He Won’t Return As Superman

Henry Cavill will not reprise his role as “Superman,” nearly two months after the British actor said he would be back. After a meeting with DC Studios co-chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran, Cavill said in a social media post that he would not return as the “Man of Steel.”

“After being told by the studio to announce my comeback in October, prior to being hired, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” he wrote on Wednesday. “The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”

“James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and everyone involved in the new universe the best of luck and the happiest of fortunes,” he added.

On October 24, Cavill told fans that be back as Superman after he appeared in “Black Adam” as the superhero. Days later, Cavill announced that he had stepped down from his role as Geralt of Rivia, his character in the popular Netflix series “The Witcher”. However, on Wednesday, Gunn said the studio would move in a different direction on future work involving Superman.

“In the early stages, our story will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn tweeted. “But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re huge fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

Cavill, who has played Superman in several movies including “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League,” reflected on his take on the iconic character.

“To those who have stood by me over the years…we may cry a little but we must remember…Superman is still here,” he wrote Wednesday. “Everything he represents still exists, and the examples he gives us are still there! My turn to wear the cape is over, but what Superman represents never will. It’s been a fun journey with all of you, on and off. up”.
