First part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix Documentary Premiere with 81.55 million hours watched, making it the most watched documentary premiere for the streaming platform. Netflix says 28 million households have watched the show so far.

The documentary consists of two parts: three episodes were released on December 8, and the next three will be released on Thursday, December 15. In its first week, the first part was in the Top 10 list of Netflix shows in 85 countries. It was number 1 in the UK.

The first part showed how the couple met and fell in love, and the media chaos they faced when their love story went public and Meghan joined the royal family. The couple say the racism Meghan experienced in the UK led them to move to the US.

So far, the documentary has received mixed reactions from critics.

After leaving the royal family in 2020, Harry and Meghan set up a production company, Archewell Productions, and signed a multi-year contract with Netflix to create a content list. The deal is estimated to be worth between $100 million and $150 million, according to Deadline, and the documentary is the first series they’ve released.

The documentary is directed by Liz Garbus, who was nominated for an Oscar for “What Happened Miss Simone?” a documentary about the late singer Nina Simone.

While the documentary shot easily into Netflix’s Top 10 charts, a show that premiered two weeks early takes the cake. “Wednesday,” a show about the fictional character Wednesday Addams, surpassed 1 billion hours of viewing in its third week, becoming the third show to do so, after “Stranger Things 4” and “Squid Game.”

“Wednesday” ranks second on the list of the most popular on English television and has been seen by 150 million households. It was ranked #1 in 90 countries.
