The spinoff show, which premiered on Peacock in March 2022, left a memorable impression on viewers when it came to fights, layoffs, and mayhem. During the first season, fans and cast found it difficult to defend the chef ryan mckeown since he failed in the workplace and ended up at odds with his coworkers.
Before the show aired, aesha scott hinted that her professional relationship with Ryan quickly took a turn. “If arrogance was personified, it would be Ryan. He is a very arrogant man,” the New Zealand native shared exclusively with us weekly in March 2022, referring to Ryan as “difficult” to get along with. “I think that’s something that everyone, not just as a chef, it’s kind of hard to be around someone who’s arrogant.”
According to the Beneath the Mediterranean deck alum, it was easy for her not to be too affected by Ryan. “For me, I’ve been sailing for a long time and every chef is a difficult little kid. I don’t know why they are like this,” she continued. “So, he was no different. I expect that from all the chefs he works with.”
Captain Jason Chambers he also had a hand in the complicated relationship between Ryan and the team.
“I like everyone. We all had a great time. [Ryan’s] the food was excellent and in the first episode you saw that the guests responded to their food, ”the Australian native explained to Us, adding that Ryan would be the one to “stir up the drama” the most. “Every team struggles with fatigue and work environments change and attitudes change. And then when the attitude changes, like I said, they lose focus.”
Noting that he had no problem letting someone go if they weren’t doing a good job, Jason said, “In the boating industry, there are going to be ups and downs. We are trying to achieve a high level of hospitality and these guests are paying money and we need to constantly not lose that focus,” he added. “If people can’t see that, or have an attitude against it, as captain, I have to make changes.”
At that point, Jason offered a glimpse of how he preferred to discipline his team as a boss.
“[If someone gets] hampered by someone else’s problems, then I let the team figure it out for themselves. Then they start to learn for themselves that we are going to stay together,” he explained. “Let’s just not go there. Let’s just not do it. Let’s enjoy our work environment and be respectful of each other and enjoy and have fun.”

Ryan’s Memorable Exit
After his ups and downs with Aesha and Jason, Ryan was finally fired from M/Y Thalassa in a June 2022 episode. The chef made a dramatic exit from the boat after flashing his butt to his former boss and to the camera.
The Philadelphia native has continued to defend his behavior, writing via Instagram two months later, “Not everyone has the same version of me. One person might tell you I’m an incredibly beautiful soul. The other might say I’m a cold.” -Imbecile of heart, believe them both. I act accordingly.”

Jamie’s ups and downs with Ben
During your time on board, jamie sayed Y Ben Crawley he struggled to work together on the outside team. With Jason’s support, Ben was able to work the entire season, but his professional relationship with his bosun never improved.
“It was actually very intense. Most of the time I had to watch my back,” said the sailor. Daily Mail Australia in June 2022 about his time on the yacht. “Culminates with fishing and locker. That was so dangerous. I don’t give a shit what other people say, that’s not safe.”
Jamie, for his part, argued that he never received any respect from his teammate. “Benny, he’s a good guy. And he means well. And he’s great at having a few drinks and having fun and all that kind of stuff. And a laugh, ”he explained to the Daily Dish in May 2022. “Benny as a sailor, had been away from yachting for quite some time. He had been through some trauma with his parents. [who passed away six months apart prior to the charter season]. She just came to have fun. She didn’t realize, or maybe she forgot, that there was a lot of work to be done.”

Jason’s power struggle with Jamie
In season 1 of below deckJamie said he didn’t feel like he had the support of the captain when it came to leading the deck crew.
“At the beginning of any job, you have to know who the captain is and how he works, and vice versa. It took some time because we all jumped into a boat together and we had to work hard to make it work,” the ex-cop shared with Decider in May of 2022, adding that there was “a bit of tension” between him and Jason. “Once he’s comfortable with his bosun, which is pretty soon, he should let the bosun take over and trust his judgment.”
However, the Australian native maintained his management style while filming the series Peacock.
